Oahu has public transit all over the island called "The Bus". It is cheap but it takes forever to get anywhere since there are so many routes competing with the other traffic.
We took over an hour on The Bus to get to the Pearl Harbour Visitor Centre run by the National Park Service. The two pavilions that describe the circumstances that led to the attack and a detailed description of the attack were excellent. Personal accounts from survivors were videotaped along with actual newsreel and CGI graphics made the films very dramatic. It was a moving experience.
In addition there were several static displays of plaques for subs and ships lost in the Pacific. Most subs lasted 2 or 3 years! There was sub on display, the USS Bowfin, and a battleship, the USS Missouri. The focal point for the visit is the USS Arizona memorial that is over the wreck that claimed almost 1000 sailors.

After our long bus ride back we had a rest and went to dinner at the Rainbow Drive-in nearby. This drive-in was featured on Food Networks
Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. We had great success with places featured on DDD last year in New England but this experience was not so good. Although it is 50 years old, the food caters to the working class Hawaiian population the food was not very tasty. Well, better luck with the other places.
Now I know that sunbathing is not good for us but those legs ... are people asking if you're Canadian?!!! Glad to read of your adventures.
